Hey Everyone - hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Due to the holiday, I wasn’t able to get a newsletter out on time so I thought I’d try out this handy Thread feature.
Drop a comment and let me know what you’re consuming this weekend! Perhaps you’re wrapped up in a suspenseful thriller, listening to some new music, or headed to the movie theater.
My pile of reading materials today:
Update Sunday 11.27.22 -
Reading:
I've mostly been reading Grisham's The Broker early morning, late night and while riding the subway.
I'm about 260 pages into the book. It's picked up and feels like the plot's climax is coming soon. I watched a few videos recently in which Grisham described his writing process. He starts writing a book on Jan 1 of every year, writing 5 days a week, from 7am to 12pm until July 1st when he delivers the book to his publisher. He outlines his book before writing a first draft and always knows how the book will end. [Also: GrishamNYT op-ed on writing.
I enjoy thrillers - they're easy to read, keep me interested, and serve as a respite while reading heavier, denser books, like Lamont's Day of Trinity. The newspapers and magazines are materials I turn to while searching for topics to cover in my weekly newsletter, Five Bullet Friday.
Went to the LCD Soundsystem concert at Brooklyn Steel last night, part of a 20 show run.
Seeing:
Something about the holidays, cold weather, and approaching winter prompts me to revisit David Fincher’s film adaptation of Stieg Larsson thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this time each year. I finally read the book in 2020. Fincher’s portrayal of snowy, silent Sweden lures me in the same way Larsson’s book did.
Meet Me in the Bathroom - continuing with the excitement of last night’s LCD Soundsystem show, Meet in the Bathroom documents the early 2000s music scene in New York City, based on Lizzy Goodman’s book.
I'm reading The Revenant for the second time and hoping to watch the movie again soon since my first experience with the movie was not great (I was on a plane). I'm also listening to Afrique Victime by Mdou Moctar, Eric Johnson's debut album Tones, and Soulive's Live in Tokoyo from 2011. Also, Elvis Never Been to Spain, live at the Richmond Coliseum, 1972. It's killer!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV3Kv-TAyE4

Cool thanks for music recommendations Eric! I also have to rewatch The Revenant after reading the book.
